Spring 25
Assaulting Spaces ExhibitA small exhibit showcasing my social issue which is hostile architecture. the concept was to take the design logic of hostile architecture and implement it into different mediums. The ways I communicated this is through the book, audio, material of the exhibit, and the layout of the exhibit. My book is bound on both sides which makes it difficult to hold and read. the layout of the first half of the book is very functional and readable while the second half is very dynamic and almost hard to understand. I have audio included in my exhibit and the sounds are peaceful sounds from nature (birds chirping at a park, and beach noises) which slowly distort and become almost hard to keep the headphones on. The exhibit itself is made out of wood which usually is warm and comforting but I laser engraved textures of hostile architecture on it and its almost sand paper feeling. I have typography that is disjointed and angled that makes it more difficult to read. The purpose of the exhibit was to have the audience understand how obscene this type of design logic is. I thought implementing the logic into mediums that are not typical would allow the audience to see it and understand that hostile architecture is all around us and that we have just gotten comfortable with being uncomfortable.
